A Mid to Late 19th century Brown Transferware Plate. The coveted "Nuneham Courtnay, Bridge and Cottage" Pattern of English Transferware, this soup bowl measures 9 1/2" in diameter. This is a wonderful pattern with a border known as wild rose. No chips or cracks with a gleaming glaze, the only curious finding is an area or two of smudged transfer application along the upper margin of the plate. I still find it charming as these minor imperfections add to the character of the true transfer process.
